Inside Writing is the first ESL / EFL textbook on the market targeted to university or high school students that teaches the genre-based approach to writing. The genre-based approach prepares students to write texts in the same way native speakers do, by analyzing authentic samples of a text type and analyzing them for the most important language features.
Based on the research of John Swales and the work of Nigel Caplan and Jennifer Bixby, the genre-based approach helps students learn how to learn. It also prepares students to write the actual kinds of texts that they will encounter in their academic studies and beyond.
